Want A Beer At Applebee's Buy The Small Size. Here's Why

Somebody posted a video that shows how restaurants use different shaped glasses to make us think we're getting a lot more to drink in large sizes than small.

At Applebee's the people in the video ordered a small beer and a large beer. They drank the small beer. Then they poured the contents of the large beer into the smaller glass. When the small glass was full, there was barely anything at all in the large glass.

I'm guessing a lot of other restaurants do this, too. Watch and see for yourself:

Restaurant News: Eatery Shows Skin, Finds Success, But Toilet Themed Restaurant Goes Down Toilet

Somebody recently took to one of those on line restaurant review sites to take a West Virginia restaurant to task because the lovely waitresses there seemed disinclined to "show more skin."
The Atomic Grill in West Virginia
is "showing more skin."

The ever-obliging owner of the restaurant, the Atomic Grill in Morgantown, decided to respond to the reviewer and did just that. He had the restaurant staff show a LOT of skin.

Oh, not like that, you dirty pervert.

The restaurant owner added potato skins to the menu, and turned the dish into a big promotion that raised money for the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services, says television station WBOY.

For the reviewer who wanted the actual waitstaff to show more skin, he was out of luck. "That sort of attitude is Cro-Magnon at best,' said Atomic Grill owner Daniel McCawley.  The restaurant did not alter or change the design of the uniforms the staff wear.

But the potato skin promotion was a big success, according to WBOY.

What wasn't a big success is the toilet themed restaurant in California, which recently closed its doors.

Apparently, a  restaurant with toilets as seats and fare named after poo is not a great business model.
The lovely (??) Magic Restroom Cafe has closed its doors.
And toilet seats.

The Magic Restroom cafe featured Taiwanese cuisine, but some of the dishes had names like "black poop" and "smells like poop."

Appetizing, no?

The good news about the restaurant's closing is it prompted  local news headlines like "Magic Restroom Cafe Craps Out After Eight Months: and "Magic Restroom Cafe Goes Down The Toilet."

Best Restaurant Nominee? Tim's Place, New Mexico

If I ever find myself in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and feel even a bit hungry, I'll definitely check out a restaurant called Tim's Place.

The awesome Tim Harris, owner of Tim's Place, an
Albuquerque, N.M. eatery.
It's believed to be the only restaurant in the nation owned by someone with Down's Syndrome, and from all reports, Tim's Place is an awesome place to eat.

The owner is Tim Harris, who likes his job so much he does a little dance in the parking lot before going in and opening the place early every morning.

The restaurant's catch phrase is "Breakfast, Lunch and Hugs," and owner Harris makes sure he goes around and hugs all his customers.

"I am a mean, mean hugging machine," Harris said.

Talking about leaving the clientele in a good mood!

His parents, Keith and Jeannie Harris and brother Dan Harris help Tim run the restaurant, but Tim Harris basically is a Jack of All Trades, ensuring the place runs smoothly.

For more on Tim's Place, watch this video. In a world of gloomy news, here's a very upbeat business item to digest:

Classy Wedding? You Can Get Married at a Denny's!

As readers of this blog might know, I'm getting married very soon (Twelve days to go!)

Of course, the wedding plans are set. The venue is ready, so is the caterer, the photographer and everything else that goes with some fine nuptials. It will be a glorious day.
This Las Vegas Denny's will have a wedding chapel

However, when Jeff and I were planning our wedding, we were unaware of the following option: We could have gotten married at a Denny's in Las Vegas!

Yep, a new Denny's diner about to open in Vegas has a wedding chapel as a centerpiece.

Just think. Instead of getting married in a venerable old theater on a lovely Vermont college campus, we could have said our "I do's" amid some drunken partiers who have late night munchies.

Instead of hirinig a caterer who will offer some tasty hors d' voeuvres,  we could have had some runny eggs and rubbery pancakes to celebrate the beginning or our new life together.

Jeff and I hired a photographer named Andy Duback, a talented professional who has done superb work at countless weddings, and in lots of other settings. Plus is pretty much the staff photographer for the theatrical productions that are regular features in the theater where we will wed.

Geez, maybe we could have just had the staggering masses in the Denny's shoot lopsided, blurred images of us with their barely functioning iPhones.

But no, we'll skip the Denny's wedding. I think fast food leads to fast marriages. You know, the ones that are over in a flash. Jeff and I plan to stay married for a long, long time. As in forever.
