NPR Unwittingly Provides More Proof Some Trump Supporters Are Really Stupid

NPR tweeted out the Declaration of Independence on
the Fourth of July and some Trumpsters got confused
On the Fourth of July, NPR thought it would be a cool idea to tweet out the Declaration of Independence.

Actually not a bad idea. If 1776 had Twitter, I'm guessing the Founding Fathers might have tweeted out the declaration.

Turns out some easily confused Trump supporters didn't get what NPR was doing. But of course.

One person decided NPR had been "hacked like crazy." Another person reacted to the NPR tweets this way: "So NPR is calling for revolution. Interesting way to condone the violence while trying to sound "patriotic."

Here's the part of the Declaration of Independence that seemed to irk some Trump supporters: "A Prince whose character is thus marked by ever act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the rule of a free people."

Hmmm.

"This is why you're going to get defunded," a Trumpster named Darren Mills tweeted in response to NPR.

Yet another confused person dismissed NPR's Declaration of Independence as this: "Propaganda. Is that all you know how? Try supporting a man who wants to do something about the injustice in this country."

I suppose we could all support the country if we figured out what the Declaration of Independence actually is.

Angry Trump/Pence Supporters Attack Theater In Hamilton, Ontario Because "Hamilton"

The Hamilton Theatre in Onatrio is getting a lot of flack
from Trumpeters because their name has the word
"Hamilton" in it and the Trumpeters don't like the
way Mike Pence was treated during the real
production of "Hamilton" on Broadway.
UPDATE:

There's yet another theater companh in the sights of Trumpeters besides the one in Ontario.

According to NPR the small community theater group, Hamilton Players in Hamilton, Montana also got TONS of abuse over the Pence incident at the Broadway production of "Hamilton."

Denise Rose, executive Director of Hamilton Players Inc. said, "My phone would go crazy in clumps of 10 to 15, then an hour later all teh re-tweets started again.....We were getting tweets calling us racist, untalented, disrespecful or more."

Some people later apologized to the Hamilton, Montana players for the mistake, but others kept at it.

Dummies.

PREVIOUS DISCUSSION:

In yet more evidence that internet trolls can be incredibly stupid, a theater company in Hamilton, Ontario is getting trash on line from some of these internet trolls.

You see where this is going.

As you've surely heard, Vice-President elect Mike Pence went to see the Broadway hit "Hamilton" the other day, and the cast gave him a pointed message about tolerance and respect. Some audience members booed Pence.

Our childish president-elect, Donald Trump, took to Twitter like he always does and complained about how the annoyed he was that this happened at the Hamilton show.

Trump called "Hamilton" "overrated" during his rant, which is interesting, given the Tonys it won and the fact that it's nearly impossible to get tickets to this show.

His followers, who I call Trumpeters, took to social media, too, to whine and howl about how disrespect this was, or something.

The Hamilton Theatre Co. in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada took a lot of this grief, says CBC in Canada.

No, their current production is not "Hamilton" but "The Toxic Avenger."

Never mind, though. The name of the theater company is Hamilton, and anything named Hamilton now is considered anti-Trump.

Apparently, says the CBC, the internet trolls were too apoplectic to pay attention to Twitter handles, and which way to direct their ignorant ire.

The Twitter account of the theater company in Hamilton, Ontario is @HamiltonTheatre. The Broadway show's Twitter handle is @HamiltonMusical

I do love the irony in that the angry, unhinged Trump supporters are mistakenly and stupidly attacking a theatre whose current production is called "The Toxic Avenger."

By the way, the only adult in the room in this whole bruhaha over the Mike Pence incident at Hamilton is Mike Pence himself.

Pence told Fox News he wasn't offended by the incident and does not want an apology.

Pence said he, his daughter and her cousins "enjoyed the show" and he reminded his daughter and the cousins that the boos, cheers and words "is what freedom sounds like."

Walmart Is Unclear On The Difference Between Maryland And Massachusetts

Walmart said these two states look pretty much alike,
so who cares if a University of Maryland t
shirt has a Massachusetts map on it?
At Walmart, they had  t-shirt that touted the University of Maryland.

Go Terps!

Here's the problem. The logo on the shirt shows a map of Massachusetts, not Maryland.

I'm not sure how many University of Maryland students, faculty and alumni don't know whether they are in Amherst, Massachusetts or College Park, Maryland, but I'm sure it's not many.

That doesn't stop Walmart, though, no way! Facts are stupid anyway, right?

According to Consumerist, a shopper tried to point out to Walmart that perhaps the University of Maryland is in, um, Maryland and maybe the t-shirts should reflect this notion.

I hope the initial response from Walmart was meant as tongue in cheek, but I'm not sure and that scares me.

I, and pretty much everyone else disagree on this point, but Walmart said both Massachusetts and Maryland start with the letter "M" and maps of the two states kinda, sorta look alike.

Good enough, then!

Or maybe not. The Washington Post reports, amid the growing embarrassment of these shirts, that Walmart is pulling them from the shelves and apologizing to University of Maryland fans.

Maybe Walmart could have fun, though, confusing other states and their universities. Colorado and Wyoming are both shaped like squares, so you could switch their university logo shirts.

Mississippi and Alabama look vaguely like mirror images of each other. New Hampshire looks very remotely like an upside down Vermont, and Delaware looks a bit like a mini mirror image of New Hampshire.

This is getting confusing.

Leave Megan Kelly Alone Even If You Don't Like Megyn Kelly

If Trump supporter want to criticize Megyn Kelly of Fox
News, fine. Just leave Megan Kelly, 24, of Pittsburgh alone
There's a woman named Megan Kelly who I'm sure you've never heard of. She's 24 years old, and a project manager for a marketing company in Pittsburgh.

Sounds fine, but she ain't famous.

However: This is a public service announcement to all you Donald Trump fans who don't like Megyn Kelly.

Megyn Kelly, the Fox News host, pissed off Trump and his supporters weeks ago when she asked some Trump blunt questions during the Republican debate. Trump is still going after Megyn Kelly over that, and so are his supporters.

Which brings us back to Megan Kelly, the Pittsburgh project manager. She's been getting a TON of nasty emails from Trump supporters. They're apparently confusing Megan with Megyn, says Gawker.

Stop it!  I don't know what Megan Kelly's opinion of Trump is, but it's surely spiraling downhill now that she's getting all those mistaken nastygrams from the Trump contingent.

Gawker notes that it's hard to understand how the Trump crowd got Pittsburgh Megan Kelly's email address anyway. It's not obvious, so logical guesses probably didn't work. But then again, many of Trump's supporters aren't particularly logical.

Also, Gawker points out the obvious. It's very easy to Google Megyn Kelly the Fox News person, and obtain the correct spelling of her name. It would also be easy through Google to obtain  her email address.

But a hallmark of Trump and many of his supporters is unfocused rage, so why focus their anger on the right person? When any Megan Kelly would do.

Boko Haram, Boca Raton, Same Thing, Really

U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Arizona
had a little trouble recently
with the difference between Boko Haram
the terrorists and Boca Raton,
the Florida city.
Congressman Paul Gosar, R-Arizona is concerned about terrorism, as are many leaders around the world today.

During an appearance on CNN, he said if the United States paid ransom to terrorists to free kidnapped Americans, then "every American citizen traveling abroad becomes a subject in regard for kidnapping and then the plight of how much money has been captivated by the Boca Raton group.

Huh? Are the fine citizens of Boca Raton, Florida terrorists?

He meant Boko Haram, a bunch of horrible Islamic terrorists in Africa.

Boca Raton, Boko Haram, what's the difference, right?

Boca Raton Mary Susan Haynie said she does't think the terrorist group is in her fine city, reports Anne Geggis in the Sun-Sentinel down in Florida.

"While I'm pleased that the congressman from Arizona would hav the name of Boca Raton on his lips, i am disappointed that he would confuse our vibrant, beautiful city with a movement promoting Islamis insurgency in Nigeria," she said.

(Note: Geggis is a former reporting colleague of mine in Vermont, now working at the Sun-Sentinel. She gets all the fun stories, doesn't she?)

Actually,  I'm not going to bash Gosar. Everybody stumbles over their words and makes goofy errors.

It's embarrassing to appear on CNN and seem like you're confusing a nice, quiet midsize Florida city with wild eyed, deluded, scary and murderous terrorists.

These things happen, though.
A tongue in cheek press release issued by Paul
Gosar's spokespeople after the gaffe. Click on it
to make it bigger and easier to read.

Why I like about this is the response from his press office.

Gosar's spokesman issued a press release with a great tongue in cheek response to the gaffe.

"Today, U.S. Representative Paul A. Gosar is pleased to announce that the Boko Haram terrorist group has been routed from Boca Raton, Florida and the residents are free to celebrate.

I am pleased this was a short dispute and the good people of Boca Raton can go back to tehir lives of leisure, fun and sun.....

.....Mayor Susan Haynie must have rounded up a solid group of citizen defenders who courageously protected their homeland. I look forward to visiting Boca Raton in the near future and I promise never to confuse it with the group Boko Haram ever again."

OK, we'll take that. Though next time, I'm afraid Gosar or somebody else might end up confusing Boca Raton, or Boko Haram and end up referring to Procol Harum.

I've got an idea: I bet we could rout the terrorist group Boko Harum by getting the fine citizens of Boca Raton to sing and record the Procol Harum classic "Whiter Shade of Pale" to drive those awful terrorists out of Nigeria, and maybe inspire them to just quit.

Here's "Whiter Shade of Pale" so you can start practicing:

Winter, Spring..It Keeps Changing Within Minutes. I'm Confused

I found some lettuce growing in my garden
today. A little weird for northern Vermont at
the end of December.
A couple weeks ago, we had an epic snowstorm where I live in St. Albans, Vermont.

Snowstorms are de rigueur in a Vermont December, of course.

This one was different. Instead of the nice, powdery, fluffy snow we're used to in Vermont, this was a wet slush coming down from the skies.

It had the consistency of wet cement. That wet cement snapped zillions of trees and cut power to a lot of people who live here. Some people had no power for a week.

With that snow, which piled up to about 16 inches deep in my yard, I figured winter was here to stay. At least until March.

Fast forward to the day or two after Christmas. Today.

It's been above freezing for a week, and daytime temperatures have gotten as high as the 50s.

Today, my yard looked like it normally does in the beginning of November. Or early April. Spring!

And yes, I was weeding my garden today. In Vermont.
Go figure.
So I acted like it was the beginning of November. Or April.

I finally got around to raking the autumn leaves. I weeded the garden. I found some tasty lettuce in the garden.

I worked in a light jacket. I worked up a sweat.

At the end of December. When I should be freezing my tush off.

It's just strange that lately in Vermont, and here's the latest example, we don't have consistent seasons anymore.

Winter no longer last months. It hits for a week, goes away, comes back, goes away, comes back, etc. from October to May.

January comes in April, and April comes at the end of December. No wonder I'm confused.
It was too wintry in November to get my autumn
raking done, but it was pleasantly warm at the end
of December, today, so I finally worked on it.

I enjoyed the break from winter the past couple of days. Winter is my least favorite season.

But with the weather patterns lately, I just don't know what I'm supposed to be doing.

Should I be weeding and harvesting the garden on December 27, when normally at this time of year I'd be heading off into the mountains, with a couple feet of snow underfoot, to spend the day snowshoeing?

I guess I'll garden today, and postpone my snowshoeing expeditions to Memorial Day, when we'll probably get tons of snow.

Alabama Justice Ray Moore Says America For Christians Only

If you're not a Christian, you don't belong in Alabama Chief Justice Ray Moore's America.
Alabama judge Ray Moore has some interesting
theories on government and theology.

If you think you have rights, think again, says this, um, deep Constitutional thinker.

According to Raw Story:

"He declared that the First Amendment only applies to Christians because 'Buddha didn't create us, Mohammed didn't create us, it was the God of the Holy Scriptures' who created us."

I'm confused here. I thought the founding fathers of the United States created the Constitution and the First Amendment, not God. Yeah, they might have believed in God, but I didn't think any kind of deity spent time micromanaging the formation of nations.

And what does a document establishing the ground rules of a new nation have to do with which God might or might not have created us?

Moore goes on and clarifies. "They didn't bring the Koran over on the pilgrim ship.....Let's get real, let's go back and learn our history. Let's stop playing games."

Um, so if there was not a Koran on the Mayflower, that automatically means non-Christians can't have First Amendment rights?  Even though the Constitution came much more than a century after the Mayflower? Wow, you are confusing, Judge Moore!

Finally, Moore tells us the "pursuit of happiness" can only be obtained by following God's law, because "you can't be happy unless you follow God's law, and if you follow God's law, you can't help but be happy."

I don't know exactly what "God's law" is, but if it means being as stupid and full of non-sequiturs as Moore seems to be, I can't imagine being happy.

If Moore wants to be truly happy, it sounds like he needs to establish a theocracy type of government somewhere for stupid people.

On Neptune, perhaps?
