A man, driving the wrong way on the Interstate, caused several crashes. He then stole a police cruiser, and continued driving the wrong way on the highway. The multiple crashes killed five people and injured numerous others.
Television station WCAX in Burlington, Vermont is reporting this morning that all of the dead were teenagers in a car that burst into flames when the wrong way driver hit it.
NECN identifies the horrible person behind this as Steven Bougoin, 36, no hometown given. He survived and is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, says NECN.
The identities of those who died had not been released as of 9 a.m., pending notification of families.
NECN said Bougoin drove the wrong way on Interstate 89 between Bolton and Williston, Vermont, causing several crashes.
Then, he came to a stop. Then, one police officer was trying to pull a woman from a Volkswagon Jetta while another officer was trying to squelched the flames with a fire extinguisher.
At that point, Bougoin stole the police cruiser, blasted down Interstate 89, turned around to drive the wrong way on the Interstate again, causing more brutal crashes.
